Located just outside Washington, VA, Caledonia Farm was built of native fieldstone in 1812 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is called Caledonia, the Roman name for Scotland, to honor the original immigrants to this area. With the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background, the farm offers its guests a beautiful setting. Scenic pasturelands are surrounded by nearly two miles of stone fences. The federal-style home and companion summer kitchen were completed in 1812. The two-foot-thick stone walls and 32-foot-long beams have remained intact. Mantels and paneled windows are all original. Restoration was completed in 1965. This Virginia historic landmark is preserved in perpetuity by conservation easements.
Host Phil Irwin ran a bed and breakfast at the farm from 1985 until he passed away in 2020. The summer kitchen guesthouse, which was one of the B&B suites, is now renovated and offered as a vacation rental. A minimum booking of two nights is required.
